20 Best Tips

Thoughts in My Head Right Now

It’s been quiet the last few days here, but it’s not that I’ve dropped off the planet. Part has been a crazy-busy weekend tied in with some yucky headaches. There is a lot going on in my head right now that may eventually be shared, but honestly I often struggle with how to put something down into words to accurately describe what I’m feeling.

But here’s the gist of a few things:

  • YAY!! The end of our school year is almost done! Need to make sure everything that needs to be done is done!
  • End of the year testing – so often causes me angst. Several of our kids really get anxious during testing and it’s wearing on my heart (and nerves) at times. Encouraging a child to do their best, not worry about the results – and then be worrying about them yourself – (sigh).
  • Feeling that one of your kids is getting the proverbial ‘short end of the stick’ in some areas – and trying to figure out how to best remedy that.
  • Dealing with ever changing emotions in kiddos, behavior issues, and just being a mom can be exhausting.
  • My inbox has run rampant and that stresses me out. Sad, but true. I suffer from feeling I need to personally answer many of the emails I receive and need to get over that (unless of course it’s yours…grins).
  • There are ideas for this, this, and this…must find the time to sit down and actually get them done. (Newsflash – I can’t do it all.)

Sounds exciting, no? The testing issue tied in with the end of the school bliss have been at the forefront of everything. And really – that can sometimes be overwhelming. (Hopefully this will encourage a few of you to know that you aren’t alone!)

Add in life – and well, blogging takes a bit of a backseat at times, especially when you can’t coherently put something into words.

That is the short version of it.

But how are YOU doing today?

I love when you do these post. I totally understand the over run email. I feel so bad that I have not got back to everyone might have missed someone. I think you are doing a wonderful job as a mother and educator of your kids! I think it is great that you can do it.

Here you go again, in the midst of your trying times, doing your best to make US all feel better!
Yes, it’s quite comforting to be part of a group, to have HS comrades.
But my prayer for you is that you feel the peace of our good Lord’s understanding as you test & put another year of amazing time with your children behind you.
We all appreciate & feel indebted to you for your good works!!! Thank you & God bless!

    • One of the BEST blessings of this blog has been the online community over the years – I so appreciate that. :) Thanks so much for your prayers, Mary Beth.

I just want to say that I can relate to lots of what you describe. Life and kids and inboxes that get a bit out of control! And I also want to say that I’m grateful for your blog and the fact that you invite us on your homeschooling journey and give support, ideas, etc. for ours. I was just thanking Jesus again for the Ultimate Bundle and the Teach Your Life course – which I would never have heard about except for your emails. So thanks! And be released from pressure to do more than just rest in His sufficiency. : )

    Hugs!

    • Thanks so much, Bethany. I can’t wait to dig into that course either. :) This afternoon is dedicated to operation ‘inbox control’.

  5. I struggle with test anxiety and so of course my son does too. I played a game with him last year that seemed to relieve some of his stress about the test. I got four styrofoam cups and a whole lot of nickels. I put a nickel under one cup, mixed them up and told him that he can have the nickel if he finds it under the first one he picks. (The shell game) Of course, he panicked and told me why it’s not worth trying, but we talked about the value of nickel. It has value, but not so much that it’s no big deal if you get it or not. We played for a little bit, then I drew a circle on one cup and said the nickel is under the cup with a circle. He looked at me like I was crazy, because it was so obvious. After a few more rounds, I added another circle until all of the cups had circles and it was just a guess again. Then we talked about how the cups relate to the test.
nickel-it has value, but not a whole lot.
1 cup – easy peasy, you know it
2 cups – it’s one or two answers, so ignore the rest and try one of your two
3 cups – there’s one obvious wrong answer, just pick one
4 cups – have no clue, but try it anyway. You may get it right.
