The Power of Words

Words have the ability to inspire or to depress; to make one happy and feel validated or to deplete and discourage.  When we live with our children day after day, we either build an inheritance, a treasure chest of inspiration, confidence, validation, OR memories of anger, criticism, while storing up in their souls hostility, insecurity, and bitterness.

-Sally Clarkson

Inspire. Validate. Build.

That seems so simple to do and yet I fail MISERABLY all too often. While this is something to do for a lifetime, I often need the reminder to take things one day at a time ~ truthfully, one minute at a time because things can change so quickly in this house.

Minute by minute. Hour by hour. Day by day. Week by week. Each word that I speak has such power to speak into the lives of my children.

Each day this week I am striving to intentionally encourage my children. One word at a time.

Thanks so much to Joy from Grace Full Mama for reminding me of this quote! Please read the rest of the article she wrote about Encouraging Words along with her challenge too!

  1. I fail too:(  Thank you for this sweet, gently reminder!!  You are such a blessing!!

  2. I think this applies to yourself, too! There have been a couple posts where it seems like you’re being really hard on yourself! I’ve just started subscribing to this site, because I love the free printables that are so helpful to me in teaching my kids. They’re creative and fun! I found it so ironic that someone as talented as yourself could ever compare – I’ve often compared myself to people like you who have the ability to do something as difficult as homeschooling, while maintaining a blog that helps others! When you wrote that you fail miserably, I highly doubt that. Not one of us is a perfect parent and I think our Father in Heaven understands that and has compassion on us, not just our children. Don’t forget to use kind and encouraging words towards yourself, as well. Take care! You seem like your a truly remarkable person!

    • Girl ~ we ALL compare. :) I struggle right along with you all too. There are days that I just want to cry in frustration at some of the things that fly out of my mouth without any thought as to how they will impact my kids, and I know how much words can stick with a child for a very long time. There are still words that were said to me that I still hear echoes of in the back of my mind. And yet I act hastily and don’t think before speaking. Something that I definitely need help from God in! :)
