20 Best Tips

A Break Week and Reading

It’s always good when I take a look at the plans that I made at the beginning of the year. Especially, when those plans include a week-long break that starts today.

Ahhh….the fun we will have. :)

The kids and I just started reading Gregor the Overlander series by Suzanne Collins and they are also anxious to rack up as many reading hours as they can to earn a free ticket to Six Flags.

In case you missed the post on my Facebook page, the Six Flags: Read to Success program is open to homeschoolers!! You have to register and each child needs to read 6 hours before March 1st ~ but you still have time. So, if you live within 250 miles from a Six Flags, sign up and download the forms.

We’ll be cuddling up on the couch to finish up the last few hours of reading {although certain children have already managed to finish up their allotted time}. I will have some other fun posts this week still, including a giveaway, so stay tuned!!

  1. Jolanthe –
Thanks for this – I had no idea about this Six Flags program!  My kids will be super excited.  Now to keep them on track with their homeschool work before they start reading for fun!  When did this program start?  I’ll have to put it on my calendar for next year – but at least this year my four kids are K,2,4,and 6 grades so they all can participate!

    • Sorry, one other question that I’m not seeing an answer to – We can include time that we are reading together as a family, right?  And I’m meaning for fun – not school-work family reading.  Thanks!

    • Not sure when it started. I just found out about it a week ago or so. :)

  2. You know I just realized all these hours we’ve spent reading them Harry Potter aloud counts towards our reading time…….

  3. I’m so glad you mentioned the Six Flags program because I did miss the Facebook post!!  Thank you so much!!!!

  4. I, too, just signed up for the reading program!  Woot!  My girls are pumped.  We’ve been inspired by your post and are going to spend the rest of this week doing reading (For the Six Flags program) and opening our very first Little Passports box.  They don’t know about that one yet – it’s a surprise!  So thanks for the change of pace idea for this week.  It’s already been “a Monday” for sure!

  5. Thanks for sharing this! I know some many places that doing reading program for summer, but I love that this can encourage reading all year round for kids.
