Have you heard about the new Son of God movie that opens across the country this Friday, February 28th in theatres? If your family watched “The Bible” TV mini series on the History Channel earlier this year, you will not want to miss this movie. While we don’t have cable (thanks to living in the country) and missed the series, this is one film that my husband and I are excited to see together this weekend.
Here’s a peek at the trailer:
From the award-winning producers of the record-breaking miniseries The Bible, Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, comes Son of God , the larger-than-life story of The New Testament, to be released by 20th Century Fox on February 28, 2014. Son of God is a major motion picture that brings the life of Jesus Christ to the big screen like never before.
Told with the scope and scale of an action epic, the film features powerful performances, exotic locales, dazzling visual effects and a rich orchestral score from Oscar®- winner Hans Zimmer. Award-winning actor Diogo Morgado portrays Jesus as the film spans from his humble birth through his teachings, crucifixion and ultimate resurrection.
The movie is action-packed with special effects, powerful acting, and beautiful cinematography. It marks the first major motion picture about Jesus’ life since Passion of the Christ, released ten years ago.
Rated PG-13
Compassion International has partnered with Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, the creators of the Son of God movie, to share the ministry of Compassion at the end of the film and invite viewers to sponsor a child. Many of you may know that Compassion is a ministry that is very dear to our family (and one that I would encourage you to learn more about as well!), and it excites me to see this partnership!
Here are a few additional resources that go along with the Son of God movie that you may find helpful:

With the start of school just around the corner, things around our house are beginning to feel a little hectic for me. There are lots of things to remember, supplies to gather, lessons to plan, and new schedules that need to be put into place.
Starting the school year off right is definitely important, and we want to begin with a routine that helps us grow as a family. One thing that we include in our day’s schedule is a devotional time, so that we are not only learning together academically, but spiritually as well.
A few months ago, I purchased 90 Devotions for Kids to read with the kids before starting school. This devotional from Adventures in Odyssey includes short challenges and encouragement from familiar AIO characters {and is fun if you try to read bits in their voices!}. It has been a devotional that all of our children have enjoyed and a great start to our mornings.
90 Devotions for Kids is geared toward kids ages 8 to 12 and covers fourteen different topics including salvation, discipleship, prayer, faith, forgiveness, giving, witnessing, and worship. The topics are broken up into seven different devotions with a weekly themed verse to memorize.
Each devotional includes a daily Bible verse, an example of the topic in action, daily challenges, and wise words from several residents of the fictional town of Odyssey. Fans of AIO will love the time spent with familiar friends and those who haven’t listened to an episode will find 90 Devotions for Kids a great addition to their devotional time.
If you are looking for a devotional that is packed with truth and lots of fun, and one that will help you and your kids take a break together for Bible reading, prayer, and conversation, 90 Devotions for Kids would be a great addition to get you going this year. And really – you don’t have to wait until the first day of school. You can start now and get a bump up on the school year and have daily devotions already built into your routine! {and that’s a great thing!!}
What routine or habit are you hoping establish this year with your family?
This post has been a part of the A.C.T.S. Summer of Service series from Adventures in
Odyssey. AIO is prompting children {and families} to serve others around them, both near and far. Children can win some GREAT prizes, including a missions trip to Costa Rica!! You can find out more details at www.whitsend.org/acts. Families can also download:
Classical music is something that I want our children to appreciate and enjoy throughout their lives. If you are looking for something to introduce symphony and orchestra music to your younger children, you might want to look at Maestro Classics.
Maestro Classics produces the Stories in Music series, a classical music CD series for children ages 5 to 12. The CDs intertwine classical music with a narrated story. The music is performed by a full orchestra and is nothing short of amazing. And the music isn’t just for little kids {grins}.
Each CD from Maestro Classics includes a booklet that has lesson activity ideas, games children can play, and ways to extend the learning with your children. If you want to know more information about the composer and the musical selection, they provide it all for you. The stories are fun, engaging, and keep the attention of little ones. {Note: Those downloading mp3 files will receive a printable copy of the booklet}.
In addition to their CDs, Maestro Classics also offers homeschool music curriculum guides for their CDs. They have done research in areas such as geography, history, science, language arts, math and more to help make your job even easier!
