Preschool Corner ~ Vacation Bible School {a.k.a. a break for Mommy}

This week all of the kids have been involved in Vacation Bible School and Kaleb especially has been having a great time. While the kids are at church, I’ve been sneaking away to a friend’s house nearby and doing some planning for the upcoming school year. I haven’t knocked as much off my list as I had hoped to, but every little bit of headway is helpful!

We’ll primarily be using Before Five in a Row for Kaleb this next year and one thing I did figure out is the books that we’ll be covering during the school year with him. The goal is to work on two books each month and alternate between a BFIAR book and one of the preschool packs that we haven’t had a chance to work on together yet.

Curious to see the books that we’ll be using? Here’s a look at the ones on our list.

Several of the books were out of print, but I found them on Amazon in the ‘used’ section and got some great deals. We are skipping a few {at least at this point}, especially the ones that were really hard to find because they are out of print and our library doesn’t have them.

So…still working and planning and playing and having fun overall!  How were YOUR weeks??

  1. I really need to find some time to plan, too.  I still have a thing or two to purchase for this fall, but I definitely want more structure to our days.

I’ve been eyeing the BFIAR and FIAR things lately.  I can’t wait to see how you use them.

    Thanks for sharing!!

We are using B4FIAR this year too! Did you buy most of the books? I am going halfway – buying some and using the library for others, then skipping a couple :D

    • some I had and then some I found super cheap. After thinking about how
far we are from the library now, paying $3.99 s/h for a book from Amazon
{on books that were a penny} seemed worth it on many of them! :)
Especially with gas being so high…and our tendency to have an overdue
      book or two! :)

  3. Good luck with all of your planning!  I am in planning mode here too, for FIAR and a few B4FIAR.  It’s going to be great to have everything ready to go for the upcoming school year! Happy fourth!  Hope your family has a wonderful weekend!

  4. My kids have been in sports camp this week, and it’s been great!  I’ve spent the time at Chik Fil A, working on illustrations and planning a little bit.  I’d be planning more if I could find my science textbook for next year.

  5. I’ve been trying to sneak some planning in too this week. We took a break to do some “spring cleaning” and part of that cleaning included my work desk. 6 MONTHS of filing piled up! Sigh. I am like you…not getting as much done as I’d originally like but liking every little bit that is getting done…what a difference! I think I will need one more week though.

Jolanthe ~ we are further out in the country too so I totally love Amazon for that reason! With gas prices it cost us $20 to take a trip into town so we lump as many errands together as we can to get the most bang for our buck!

  6. I fell in love with the BFIAR concept, ordered the guide and quickly set it aside.  Not because it wasn’t a good choice, it’s just my pattern, unfortunately.  We did use it for about a third of the books listed, but by the time I started, some were just too young for my son.  I had thought about getting the books from amazon, but my library is close AND the book sale is run by a good friend of mine, so she sets aside any titles I might want.  We bought a few of them, but just used the library for most.  What I really liked about BFIAR was the overlap between books and themes and how my son would catch on w/o any prompting.

We’re really enjoying the Preschool Paks, thanks for sharing them so generously!

  7. Yay you got a lot done this week!

  8. I’ll be doing BFIAR this year too with my 3yo.  Can’t wait to see your posts!

  9. We LOVE Before FIAR!  I found a couple of the oop books at alibris.com.  If you order multiple books from the same vendor you can save on shipping!
