Planning Might Help ~ Preschool Corner

Lesson learned this week…and really, one would have thought that I should have caught onto this before. I need to be better organized on our ‘off’ weeks.

{Sigh}.

We have been rotating our ‘schedule’ lately. One week we do a preschool pack and the next we have a more ‘laid back’ week: Kumon workbooks, our All About Reading program, Bible devotionals, etc… Unfortunately for Kaleb, I don’t focus as much on his workboxes and getting his things organized as well as I need to {rephrased: as much as Kaleb needs}, which then throws everything out of whack and leaves a grumpy boy, a more-grumpy mom, and everyone else frustrated listening to the whining echo throughout our house.

{BIG sigh}.

So…lesson learned. Next week we’re working on a preschool pack together that Kaleb chooses and I will be making a more deliberate effort to keep little Mr. ‘Just So’ happy with his workboxes filled and ready…even if it just has playdough in it!

How did YOUR week go?

  1. Thank you for hosting this fun linkup. :-)

Oh that’s tough! Matthew loves to have something prepared for him too – just making the effort to put anything on his shelves (not workboxes, but the same idea) is a huge step towards making him happy. Sometimes it really is as simple as play dough or a CD book.

I have to admit though, sometimes I wonder about his self-motivation… when we have an “off” week with not much planned, he seems to be at a loss for what to do. I wonder if having the structure we have, which works great on “on” weeks, is sabotaging his ability to find something to do on his own…

Sorry, just random thoughts that came out. Do you ever have the same feeling? Or maybe it’s just my kid. :) It worries me just a tiny bit…

Thanks for hosting; hope next week goes a bit more smoothly for all of you!!

  3. Thanks for hosting the link up! Have a good weekend and Happy Mother’s Day!

I have weeks like this! Thanks for being willing to tell us you have the same problem, makes me feel a bit more normal. Usually I make up for it with a great week, so Kaleb will probably really enjoy this next week!

  5. Dianne Vohs says

My 3 yr. old is the same way! If I don’t take the time to fill her boxes, she just pitches a fit until I do. I’ve just come to realize that trying to save a few minutes the night before by skipping hers just results in losing more time the next day. Why again did I think it would be a good idea to get her her own set of boxes like the bigger kids??

  6. Did you write that at the top.. or was that me.. ;-) It totally could have been me right that this week.. well minus the other kids having to listen to it.. I am determined to make next week better!! Expect a post from me.. I need to get my act together :-P

  7. At least you have been blogging … I had a “I can’t be bothered, I need sleep.” kind of week, half hearted blogging ar its best. Two year old has second molars pushing through … I have been trying this week not to “Pray the 2s away”, rather “pray for patience to get through the moment” so I can enjoy the 2s! I have been praying hourly this week :P

I am so thankful that you shared that reminder! Planning is so important…I know I should have learned that as a teacher;) We need a lot of planning to make things run smooth too. Well off to planning a better week. Thanks:)

And you know what…there’s nothing wrong with good ‘ol fashion playdoh either :D I like the way your rotating your schedule too. It was also nice to meet you IRL, lol.

  10. I have felt this way the past several weeks. I need to be more consistent. I have a 5 and 31/2 yr old. Do you have any suggestions on how to plan for them and how to gove them both my attention. So hard!! I also would like to know if you know where I can find the skills they need to learn at their age.

    Thanks for being so honest!!
by the way love love your site!!
